  • Leak Detection of Weak Flammable (A2L) Refrigerants

    The continuous high temperature in summer can not help but remind people of ancient timesThe fear of being dominated by ten suns, no WIFI, no watermelon, and the most terrible thing is that there is no air conditioner!

    Speaking of air conditioning, at present, the refrigerant widely used in air conditioning equipment is chemically stable and non-flammable (AI) Freon. Therefore, even if the refrigerant leaks to the outside of the air conditioning equipment, there is no need to worry about safety issues such as fire. However, non-combustible (AI) Freon has been clearly caused by the warming of the greenhouse gas. If a large amount of leakage escapes, it will aggravate the greenhouse effect and cause the earth to be hotter.



    For this reason, it has been put on the agenda to replace it with weak flammable (A2L) refrigerants with smaller warming coefficient (GWP). However, the weak flammable refrigerant still has a certain degree of combustion, in case of leakage, there is still the possibility of fire. In order to reduce the above risks, it is necessary to install a gas sensor for leak detection for air conditioning equipment or refrigeration equipment that uses a weak flammable (A2L) refrigerant and reaches a certain amount.



    Gas detection methods suitable for weak flammable (A2L) refrigerant detection include semiconductor gas sensors and infrared (NDIR) gas sensors.

    The NDIR gas sensor is characterized by good selectivity for the target gas and high detection accuracy. Therefore, it is very suitable for the detection of refrigerant leakage in large-scale frozen warehouses and refrigeration equipment. Meanwhile, as compared with a semiconductor-type gas sensor, the output may be irreversibly changed when it is subjected to mechanical vibration or impact, and the optical system may be defaced when it is used in a dust-polluted environment for a long period of time, resulting in a decrease in the output. It is necessary to fully consider the shortcomings of its high cost and excessive size.



    To this end, FIGARO developed a new refrigerant detection sensor TGS2630. It is not only widely used in the detection of air conditioning, refrigeration equipment, the most commonly used refrigerant R-404a, R-410a, to reduce the GWP (global warming index) "weak flammable (A2L) refrigerant" R-32, R-1234yf and "flammable (A3) refrigerant" R-290 (the main component of propane) also has a high sensitivity.
