The level sensor may provide a switch signal to detect the presence or absence of liquid. Its working mode is the principle of total internal reflection. There is an LED and a detector in the plastic dome of the head of the device. When there is no liquid, all the light from the LED is reflected from the inside of the dome to the detector. When the liquid covers the dome, the effective refractive index at the dome/liquid boundary changes, causing some of the light emitted by the LED to escape and the light received by the voltage level switch to decrease, indicating the presence or absence of the liquid through the high and low switch signals.
