  • Application of ppb gas sensor in environmental monitoring

With the continuous progress of human science and technology, it also brings more and more environmental problems, which has brought far-reaching impact on people's life, health and economy.

It is of great significance to monitor and detect toxic and harmful gases in the air and monitor the emission standards of the plant. Electrochemical analysis technology is a new technology in modern environmental pollutants and environmental detection technology. It is widely used in micro gas stations, UAV detection and other applications, which can effectively detect the concentration and change trend of different gases in the air.

The basic principle of electrochemical sensor is the use of pollutants in the electrode surface electrochemical reaction, and then through a specific transducer will be the perception of information into identifiable, and the target substance concentration changes in proportion to the electrical signal is identified by people, so as to achieve the purpose of qualitative or quantitative analysis.

Electrochemical sensors can be simply divided into four types: primary cell type, constant potential electrolysis type, ion electrode type, and electrical type.

The principle of the galvanic cell type electrochemical sensor is that the measured gas is reduced at the cathode, and electrons flow to the anode through the current meter, where the lead metal is oxidized. The size of the current is directly related to the concentration of the measured gas. This electrochemical sensor can detect gases such as oxygen, sulfur dioxide, and chlorine.

The working principle of the constant potential electrode electrochemical sensor is to keep the interface between the electrode and the electrolyte solution at a certain potential for electrolysis, and by changing its set potential, selectively make the gas oxidation or reduction reaction, so as to quantitatively detect various gases. The potentiostatic electrode sensor can detect many flammable gases and toxic gases, such as hydrogen sulfide, nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide and so on.

The ion electrode type electrochemical sensor is based on the gaseous substance dissolved in the electrolyte solution and ionization, dissociation of the generated ions in the ion electrode generated by the electromotive force, according to the size of the electromotive force to obtain the gas concentration. This sensor can detect ammonia, carbon dioxide and other gases.

The principle of the electric quantity type electrochemical sensor is that the measured gas reacts with the electrolyte solution to generate an electrolytic current, which is linearly proportional to the concentration of the measured gas. The main gases that can be detected by the electric type are chlorine, ammonia, etc.

British AlphaB4Electrochemical sensors are mainly used in the field of air quality grid detection, which can detect sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, hydrogen sulfide, nitric oxide, these toxic and harmful gases.

Unlike traditional three-electrode electrochemical sensors, AlphaB4The fourth electrode of the sensor is used as an auxiliary electrode to compensate for the zero-point current, so that it has the characteristics of high signal level and low zero-point current, and the resolution can be controlled to severalppbLevel, with fast response, short reaction time, anti-interference, wide working range and other obvious advantages.
